Archival disc were designed to store digital materials for a longer term. The beauty of the designing structure is that they can withstand all the minor natural changes such as temperature, water, humidity and dust. The outstanding ability of these are that they can be readable for at least 50years. Sony and Panasonic are the two companies who have signed up the agreement to develop this optical disc archival’s. It is shortly called as ODA.

The first one to market this technology is SONY and they have introduced many models in this technology. One of there Model holds 19 inch Rack Mount setup including Master and Extension units. This technology reduces the cost invested on self management. It can hold 535 slots per rack. Archival and retrieve process can be done on a parallel axis. The File manager utility which is built with in will help for easy archival and retrival. The file manager will use web GUI for this action. It supports major independent software vendors. The optical drives are built in with 8GB Fiber channel drive interface ethernet port.
